Website Review : The HPB Website

The Health Promotion Board [HPB] website - http://www.hpb.gov.sg/ is the most info- filled website with the latest issues and concerns featured. ..well in my opinion.
If you are looking for the most reliable health information in Singapore, this is definitely the website for you.

Being available online, it makes it easily accessible for Singaporeans to find out on the latest health concerns and issues .

Various health topics are featured in the website. Information on health diseases which are on the high in Singapore such as heart diseases, cancer are also available for reads.

What always catch my interest in the HPB website are the health tools. There are a variety of health tool available for visitors to test themselves on.

A Student-friendly feature for those who are researching and doing meal planning would be the energy and nutrient compositions of food, making it easier for the calculation of nutrients and calories of the meals.

As you browse through the website, you will find that there are many other features which are available on the website. Too many for me to mention all.

To conclude, the HPB website is an excellent source for health information especially in Singapore context.

What is Home Economics to me?

Home Economics

is not just about learning how to cook but also the sciences behind it

not just about sewing but also creating beautiful craftwork

you get to learn about nutrition and making the right food choice

eat healthily and live healthily

you get to learn about food safety, the proper ways of handling food and prevent food borne bacteria and diseases

and also how to manage your budget and making wise spending choices.

Well, isn't Home Economics something close to us?

it is beneficial to our daily life.

numero uno - the life journey

as taken from dictionary.com

home economics is a

-noun
1. the art and science of home management.
2. a college curriculum usually including studies in nutrition, the purchase, preparation, and service of food, interior design, clothing and textiles, child development, family relationships, and household economics.

i was first exposed to this subject back in 1996 when i was in secondary 1. i admit that i love this subject. i was even selected to be the subject representative for both years[sec 1 & sec 2]. but i was not given the opportunity of taking up food and nutrition as the class that i was placed in was not given F&N as subject choice.

after i completed my A levels in 2002, i wanted to join the teaching line. why? it has been my ambition. i came across of this home economic teacher training scheme and applied. but it was not meant to be then. i joined another workforce and applied teaching again after completing my 2 year bond. well, where there is passion, you will never give up. i got into the teacher- training scheme after my third try.

3 years in Temasek Polytechnic

the journey was not easy. but we had our fair share of fun, joy and laughter.
the cohort came in and graduated together and now we are in NIE, our last stage of learning before entering the real teaching world.

what made me to be even happier to be here?

My sister is together with me. Yes, we are in the same class. All making us more motivated to share in our passion to teach and our love for baking, cooking, sewing and handicrafts.
